KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • 1st break in the industry was applying on Pravana Website to be an educator!
  • Public Speaking was the most challenging thing to overcome.
  • TIP: to become an educator and public speaker: talk to a group of people, grab a pencil, and speak about it for 5 min. (start with 1 minute, go to 3 minutes, then to 5!)
  • Teaching is so fulfilling and I learn so much as a teacher!
  • Seizing opportunities to learn and grow is part of my success!
  • Education and stage work requires incredible passion, MUST BE YOUR LIFE; you cannot be in it for the money and it is A LOT OF WORK!
  • Are you ready for your life to be under a microscope? No cussing, no nudes, no nothing that would cause a corporation to not want you representing their brand.
  • You can build your own education company and not worry about censoring yourself
  • Rebranding from colorist - stylist or to generalist should be done slow or it could hurt your career! EVOLVE, don't change!
  • Be honorable and it will attract people to you!
  • We can change the world's perspective of what it means to be a hairdresser.

We deliver curated resources, coaching, advice, and first-hand experience so you may become a well-rounded, self-sufficient, business-savvy, and strong individual, ready to transition or transform yourself and the industry. We won’t stop until we are all: Hairdresser Strong.

β€œI THINK HAIRSTYLISTS ARE THE COOLEST, NICEST, AND MOST FUN GROUP OF PEOPLE ON THE PLANET! I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT USHERING IN AN EMPOWERED-STYLIST FUTURE, AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE GETTING STYLISTS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE TOGETHER IN A NON-COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE WE CAN LEARN, LAUGH, AND GROW TOGETHER.”
-Said by ME!
Robert started his hair journey as a kid in rural America offering haircuts on the street to kids in the neighborhood, not realizing, one day, he would find himself working the front desk at a hair salon while in high school. From there, his experience from salon-to-salon has included the front of the house, back of the house, stylist, educator, and consultant. It was during this movement through various salons he developed a passion to empower stylists and educate owners on how to raise the industry standard of excellence, mutual respect, and professionalism amongst stylists, managers, owners, and clients. Robert currently is the General Manager and a Master Stylist at Violet Salon in Georgetown, DC.
